MODERATORS:
Why do you lock topics or when?
I do it when a topic gets too off topic, it exceeds any rules or it just is plain fighting.

I lock a topic if it has no constructive purpose or if it is a duplicate.
If the topic has let go for a long time and someone bumps it.
The topic is pointless has no meaning or it's useless.
You no longer know the original subject because it has went so far off into offtopic land.
I'll lock it if it's either, a duplicate thread, part of a spam attack. I'd lock it temporarily whilst I split all the posts and move into trash.. Then I'll unlock it![]()
@22_22 that just takes too much time and effort your better of locking it completly and allow them to create a similar topic but without going back off topic again.
I would lock topics if they were mainly pointless, spam or if someone starts a forum trying to start a big arguement with people etc...
Anything explicit usually gets locked and moved to the dump bin for a review by one of the admins
duplicate threads usually get locked or mergeed if they are both wuite new
if a thread has gone completely south and off the copass to what the topic was originally.
plus we always lock a reported thread untill it has been reviewed by the admin

I would actually only do that if the topic that is a duplicate is on the same page as the new one and the old one isn't far enough back in the archive of topics.
I do it when i feel like it.
I lock a topic if it goes off the rules, or just completely off topic.
I do it when a topic gets too off topic, it exceeds any rules, just is plain fighting or is not needed at all.
