Depending on how it's done, it can actually get more members than advertising on any site like this. For example, back when I owned my Free Domain Guide I joined forums without a domain and contacted the admins about using my guide to improve their communities. I made a few posts before hand, as to integrate myself with their site and learn a few details to "personalize" the message I sent the them. Out of 40-60 PM's I sent that way I earned around 25 refs and got 0 complaints :-)
I personally wouldn't be annoyed if I got a PM advertising something, as long as it wasn't simply a mass message. I did get one of those at one point... didn't go well for the site owner.

I never PM advertised because first, it's always on the rule to never do that and I (of course) never disobey rules.
-
I did PM advertisement once, around a year ago. I didn't know that it was against the forum rules and I got a warning for it. But the warning expired after some time.

no never have and never will as much as it is appealing at times i doubt you would get much from it
-
I did not PM advertise my site before as I know it will be annoying to users and I (might) get a warning for that.
-
The thing is that you wouldn't mind advertising to everyone, but you hate it when someone advertises to you.
-
LOl I too did it once. I don't find anything wrong in it as long as you are not breaking any rule

I hate PM advertising, and would never do it. Ive done it once, and it wasnt really advertising. It was going back to an old foruming, and asking the admin which was a good friend if he wanted to pre register http://www.admincommunity.com/forum/...R#>/tongue.gif

It all about the quality of PM, it is fine if i found the PM is what i'm interesting. And of course, when i saw PM which is noting related with me, then i will feel like "spammed". Frankly speaking, PM advertising not a good ideas unless all the PM are really benefit the member

Done it once, got banned, never done it again.
