What is your idea for good forum ?

Agree with you GeeOne. I personally like a forum that helps me learn and eventually earn.

I also agree however there must be a strict line between learning and fun. I am a member of another webmaster forum (won't mention any names here) where only around 50% of posts will be webmaster related. I like it to be 95% learning (webmaster related), 5% fun (off-topic).

I have observed on other forums that many are only interested in learning, others in earning and some for fun.

I'm loving a forum where nobody is going to kill eachother. If everybody is friendly than the content will be much better too.

I like forums if they have some different niches in it, though not a forum with 1 million different categories about different things. NetBuilders is doing pretty good in that.. It's about 'webmastering' and also about the proxy niche.

My forum for example is about pixel tuning (tuning in paint & PS), but has also a category for 'pictuning' and 'real-life tuning'. That makes it cooler for the members, that it's not only about the same thing.

That's pretty much what I like to see on bulletin-boards.

I strongly believe that forums should be what members like it to be and should totally protect the interests of members.
I would also like to add that mods should be for maintainting discipline in the forum and not to find every chance to ban members.I love netbuilders for that ,coz it is very well built and well maintained forum unlike some other forums.Will hats off for that.
Forums should stand out of crowd.REASON:there are uncountable forums so there should be something different in it for people to join in.So when you ask why did you join in?they would always have an answer that.........ITS DIFFERENT!!
Many of the forums want the members to post just in the specialized section.
for ex.if the forum is a webmasters forum they want the members to post just there;discouraging them to post in fun sections like general chat.
Post is a post in whichever section you post.Forums should be free enough for that.
The forums should always encourage the active members on the forum.I have seen many forums that discourage the active members just because the post more in general chat.But they dont think of the precious time the members contribute to their forums .It irritates me a lot.

so acc. to me forum should be
1. motivating for members
2. should give some amount of freedom to the members
3. should not ban members for stupid reasons
4. should have freindly envoirment
5. should stand out among millions of forums and thus give a reason for people to join in.

Netbuilders fulfills all the conditions for being the best!

85% topic
10% fun
5% off topic

and of course 100% friendliness.
