As an admin I'd say phpBB2 but as a user I'd say phpBB3. :)
Mine at the moment is phpBB3. I would one day like to be using IPB3 though. :)

I like PHPBB2 better than myself. ALthough PHPBB3 has a lot better styles and things like that.
I love MyBB :P
By the way phpBB2 has a lot of security holes in it o.o don't recommend using it.
PHPBB3 or SMF.
Phpbb, it is more professional. I do not like any other software, they just look terrible :P I like Vbulletin however.
vBulletin and phpBB can look so similar at times it's kinda crazy. I like them both but the simplicity of the two is not so much :/
However I can use either one with ease :P
If you have a website and just need a simple board with nothing special i would probably choose mybb but if you just had a site mainly about the forums i would use phpbb as its much more professional and has a wide range of features... also they are both free.

I'm not using PHPBB2. And at any rate, if I remember correctly, the main PHPBB site no longer supports PHPBB2.
