What are your thoughts on SMF?

I have administrated it before and I wasn't keen on it... I also don't really like the themes. Overall it's a pretty poor software IMO. One advantage to it though is easy MOD installation.

I agree, the themes are just terrible but it's really easy to install modifications.

When it comes to any software, you just have to look to find great themes. Clearly, you guys didn't look, but I don't blame you, considering you weren't really doing much on SMF. Crip and Dzinerstudio both have consistently made very good and professional themes. The main problem with SMF was the downfall between the support staff and the developers, particularly Cathy. The amount of actual resources on SMF were really cut afterwards (including all the vBulletin ports which got taken down). Their theming system isn't really friendly, since they mostly use PHP, but it could be worse. You'd be theming in a proprietary language which doesn't make sense.

Now that impressed me. It was her first time theming on SMF and she came up with that.
