    Do You Proof Read?

Even as a professional writer (or I guess...especially as a freelance writer) I do a lot of proofreading. While many people wonder how reading over their own content will help them improve, proofreading is essential.

Proofreading allows you to solidify your content and your main points. Whenever I work on client articles, I write the entire thing, then proofread, and then I go back and add in optimized keywords, persuasive language, etc. etc.

The same process should be used when writing blog posts, to get them at their best. Ideally, you should treat the first version of your post as a draft, wait a day, and then spice it up into a publishable form.

Do you proofread? What is your take on the process?

    Proofreading

As a freelance writer and tutor I always proofread. Get it down on the page and then edit. Most good writing is about polishing what you have written.

Of course I proof read. This is basic grammar taught in elementary and junior high school. You should always proof read your content before its posted.

No matter how often I proof read my post, I always see something that I dont like or want to change. So once the basic grammar, spelling and run on sentences are fixed, the article is posted.

A true article is never finished, because there is always something that was left out. But at the very least make sure you check for poor grammar and make spelling corrections.

I think once you've written a thousand articles, you almost second-sense proof read your articles while you write them.

I make less mistakes every time I write simply because I find that I read back as I write forward.

I proofread my own documents as I write them. For important documents, I will often wait until I've slept and then re-read them.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to proofread your own writing. I can go over the same sentence a dozen times and read what I meant to write every single time. Often I will mean to type one word and instead I will type another very similar word. Each time I read the sentence, I will read the right word, even though it isn't there.

If you can arrange it, it's best to get someone else to proofread your writing.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

I usually get someone else to do it, I find that better. I once had an assignment due for school, I proofread it a couple of times, but did not find any mistakes. My friend read it and found two. So, it did help to ask someone else to do it.

I do this too at times, actually. If it happens to be a paper for class or an ebook, I'll ask my best friend to read it. He's even more of a grammar nazi than myself, and will stop reading completely if he comes across a single error.

Proofreading also gives you a chance to double check your work and make revisions if necessary. This also polishes your article and gives it a nice finish so readers have a good read.

I do when it is required, if the job is done by trusted person then I leave it to him/her.

I proofread my work and have my girlfriend proofread it as well. I also do the same for her. If it is an EXTREMELY important article, I read it out loud and then send it to friends to proofread.

Reading your work out loud is one of the BEST ways to proofread. My English and Literature classes also required audio proof reading. You notice things you wouldn't otherwise notice. Sometimes we have a tendency to read only what we WANT to read, as funny as that sounds.
