How to Build a Writing Portfolio

So let's talk about freelance writing. When you first start out, you want to have a portfolio to show off to clients. So how do you acquire this magnificant spread? There are a few methods:

    1) Collect ANYTHING that you've written recently, clean it up a bit, and present it to some people.

    2) Offer to write free articles for your school, church, cummunity youth group, whatever.

    3) Start a blog and use the articles as your portfolio.

This is a good idea as long as you keep your posts related to a certain niche (I'm assuming that you are not going to write on any topic; you've got to devellop some specialization...)

Actually, many ghost writers write on a variety of topics. I've covered blogging, interior design, travel, and alternative energy sources. People pay for your style, not your expertise.

You don't have to be an English content writer. Why not try marketing to your native language and get some more local jobs?
