forget about keyword density, anything natural and readable for your visitors will do, google doesn't focus much on keyword density in my own opinion.

Keyword density effects adsense placement. So at the least it's a considersation for publishers.

I think that it's better to use the keyword no more than 3 times in the article.

Keyword density doesn't matter much with Google. I have ranked in top 5 with almost no mention of that particular keyword in text.

But it's always better to optimize your content so it looks relevant to readers when they land on your site.

A smart webmaster will do something like this - Get a natural and quality text and the do a keyword seasoning all over the text.. 3-7% Imagine?? Finding the keyword 2 times to 7 times in 100 words. Annoying really. 1% keyword density works just perfect.

This worked well - keyword use in first 90 words and then repetition (preferably with variations) in every 130 words.

It'll soothe your readers and please search engines.. All well

1% is enough in the content considering that you can add the keyword to the description, title, alt and meta tags.

I always follow the rule to stick to 3 to 5 percentage keyword density. But one thing I would like to say is that there is no proper or accurate tool to measure which keyword density will produce the best results. It's all just some figure given before by others which I follow until today.

Natural language works the best for articles.

Webcopy has other considerations and you should expirement with the keyword density as well as the tags.

Put the KWs in H1, H2 tags..alt tags, Bold it, also use the kw in the beginning first line of the article, once or twice in the middle, and once in last line. This placement will get you the adequate density for a 400-500 word article.

However, everyone has talked about a "keyword"..i would like to know about a "keyword phrase"...say, "free auto insurance quotes"...or other 4-5 word phrases.

Repeating a 5 word phrase 5 times in an article makes it awful. So how much do you recommend for a long tail KW?? and how should be its placement to make it look less spammy??

Here's a real quick example outlining how you could work that keyword into your text, Rome9t9.

    Title:
    Free Auto Insurance Quotes

Body: With the economy being the way it is, many people are searching for ways to save money. Most consumers are unaware, however, that they could be saving money by looking into free auto insurance quotes! Statistics show that many people are over-paying on their insurance and you could be one of them.

    Somewhere in the middle:
There are many websites that offer free auto insurance quotes such as "list here."
OR something like: Many companies now offer free auto insurance quotes to potential customers.

    Finally, end it with:
So the next time you find yourself with fifteen minutes of spare time consider looking into getting free auto insurance quotes - it could save you some cash!
