    Plagiarism

DISCLAIMER: This post is in no way aimed at any particular members of this forum. Plagiarism is always wrong and should be combated by everyone.

First and foremost, stealing is WRONG. So, don't do it. Now, let's talk about plagiarism.

What is plagiarism? It's the taking of content that is not your own unique creation and using it without proper citation (credit, props, etc.) This includes:

copying forum threads from other forums
    copying posts from other blogs
    copying essays for your homework
    copying content for your clients

Plagiarism is similar to copyright infringement except that you aren't selling the content, but using it personally. Copyright infringement is a legal issue, and you will most likely get sued.

    How to Get Free Content:

article sites will allow you to reprint their articles as long as you keep the author credit in tact. So if you want free content, go there. Don't copy from other, hard working blogs!

It's depend also with the author rules. Some author didn't want to get their article copied by the other, even there is a credit. So, just need to be careful and read a whole rules if it's available. If it's unavailable, that's mean you're allowed to copied as long you write a credit and source.

About copying forum thread, how about if in the forum source, the article is a copy article also? So, the poster in the forum source is also copying from the other source, can we copy it again?

Plagiarizing something that was already stolen is STILL plagiarism. You gotta have a source. Online nobody's going to go after you for forum thread but it's really not very nice. I've had someone copy my thread (original) word-for-word and put there name on it and get rep for it. It's dishonest.

your case is clearly plagiarism. Do you take action to him?

what i mean is taking (copy paste) article from another forum. But that article is taken also from other place, and there is a source already written. It is no problem i think?

For example, is copying brandon thread to another forum (brandon thread already listing a source).

It's hard for me to explain in english, but too make it simply, this is the scheme :

Original source --> copied by X and original source url is written --> copied by Y from X, which mean, original source url already written.

If you copy something already copied, you also have to write the original source.

EDIT: Would you stop editing everyone's post Corey? It's not because your a mod that you have the right to censor every single thing that you don't agree with.

Corey, I think you missed something out in your first post (regarding plagarism on blogs).

If people copy from blogs, not only are they hurting the blog owner, and not only are they hurting the blog they're copying from, they're also hurting the blogosphere in general. If people are copying content, how does that look for a newbie blogger? Well, it says that it's OK to steal people's work. We'll then live in a time where you can't write a decent article without it being published elsewhere.

I replied to the thread saying "interesting review " I was like 13, so I didn't really know what to do. Plus the guy was the administrator of the forum, so it wasn't like I could report the post.

    @Simon
True. I doubt that a few copied articles here and there would be the downfall of blogging civilization, but in time, it does add up to a pretty crappy standard. Then again, people are already regurgitating the same ideas over and over.

Yes, but regurgitating is very different to plagarism

The point I was making is that by copying articles you're setting a bad example to newbie bloggers, which will eventually cause a chain reaction. I mean, if you're placing copied articles on your site, a newbie might see that and think it's acceptable to do so.

Monkey see, monkey do! does it seem like plagiarism is growing in the blogging community?
