    Random Writing Questions

If you guys have any writing questions, post them here and have them answered! Anything random like "how do you really spell alright?" or "what's a synonym for awesome?"

    I'm here to help.

  2. This is an awesome thread, Corey

I have noticed many people (including me at times) put 'commas' in the wrong place. Can you explain a bit on the usage of 'commas'.

    Thanks!

    1. "Commas" are used to break apart run-on sentences. You should only use a comma when you have two complete sentences that you do not want to separate, such as this sentence and the previous one.

    Basically: (noun)(verb),(conjunction)(noun)(verb)

    I ran, and he ran.

    2. Commas are used to put in more information, or rename a noun. Example:

I like pie, apple to be exact, because it tastes good.
My girlfriend, Susan, makes amazing pie.

    3. Commas are used after prepositions or interjections that begin a sentence.

Hey, are you coming to the pie festival?
    No, I can't go.
Hmm, how about we go to a movie tomorrow?
    Ok, sure thing.
For Sunday, what will we do?

Yes. Let's means "let us" and is a conjunction.

Hey, you should build a style guide for this forum. Don't know who would use, but some standards could at least be set.

I'm not sure what you mean by "style guide." You mean what makes a good post? Could be helpful.

No, not always. It can mean a singular verb, not just let us.

e.g. My father lets me use his computer.
