Directories still a good business?

I have thought a lot about directory business but I still don't have a clear picture of it.

As all of us have seen google cracking down some big directories for whatever reasons.

1)- Do you guys still think creating directories could be profitable?

2)- If yes, then creating one directory and working on it like crazy would do the job or you suggest creating a directory network?

3)- Or do you think Creating directories and expecting good money is just waste of the time.

I would really appreciate some good answers along with proper explanation.

IMO it is saturated, I still make money since it is directed towards a specific niche.

1) Yes. It has to be promoted and you should pick out only quality links. Personallly on my general directories, I do not accept illegal links, gambling links, casino links, adult links, pill links etc..

2) Start with one, and once you feel you have acquired some knowledge of how it works and stuff, then move onto a network. This will help bring in good revenue.

3) No, I do not think so. It worth trying everything.

I would still love to hear others opinion regarding this as I've been always confused about whether or not to start a directory.

I'm still excited about the idea of using directories to build super-targeted mailing lists.

I just haven't found the right niche for me yet.

i never knew that if there is any niche in directories as well. i thought everything goes in directories.

Those are called general directories not niche directories. There is quite a big difference between General and Niche ones.

Well, I bought today a domain that is 11 years old, .com, PR 3. The domain is related to directories.

I just purchased a phpLD license and found a template that I like.

Will see from here how it goes.
