Thread: Directory Niche Suggestion

    Directory Niche Suggestion

    Hi,

I've created a thread asking if directories are still a good business or not and replies really made me think there is still plenty of room for a good quality directory.

Now I need your suggestions regarding the niche of the directory. Should I go with general Directory or go for a specific niche?

I'm now seriously planning to develop a quality directory (not the usual crap) and am ready to put in good effort.

I'd love to see some good suggestions and advices from Experienced guys

    Regards

A little advise from girl would do?

Anywayz, niche directory works and have more value than general ones. But at the same time, it takes a lot and long to run these niche directories. You can go for a quality oriented niche health directory. It'd pick pretty quickly than any other niche.

    Just my opinion

    Thanks

Yeah I was pretty much considering health directory but I want to know what others thinks would be more suitable and also I would love to know what is your definition of High Quality Directory?

Hopefully we will have a good discussion here

High Quality Directory in my opinion:

    1. Operated and moderated by human editors.
    2. Complete scan of submitted site for their relevancy, working and authority (no matter even if they're new, they should be good)
    3. Manual check over submitted siteswith professional and unique descriptions and titles
    4. Directory must have its submissions guidelines, privacy policy pages
    5. Time to time check-up of the directory for the listed URls whether they're working or not. It may be time consuming but a check makes the directory of a superior quality.
    6. Timely approval or rejection of submitted listings (not too long to make it another spam directory - and not too quick approval to get it counted in desparate directories)
    7. Well promoted over forums, other related directories.
    8. A quality directory will have its own strong backlinks and a good promotions would h make it to that level

Umm.. I may come up with few more criterias.. That's all for now..

I would try to make a sub-niche directory. Here is an example: Acne = Niche, Acne scars = sub-niche. I think that it would be easier to get traffic, and links to that kind of directory. And in the future, it will be easy to expand it.

I'm going to try to do sub-niche directory in the future. Then I create more sub-niche directories, in the same niche. And after some time, I have succesfull niche directory.

[Please note: I don't know if there is sub-niche word or not. I just made it up. ]

I don't know but I would rather not do sub-niches. Wouldn't it be way too much specific and limited this way?

What I wanted to say, Khan already said. You definitely had a nice idea Desan but it will not work really. A niche directory only a tiresome job to run and sub-niche means, you keep waiting for people to submit their websites (rather wait for CREATING sub-niche website first )

I don't think many people would like sub-niche directory idea. It may work 4 years down the lane though.

Hmm. Maybe I din't think this as far as I could have. But I do believe, that in some niches this actually could work. It is true that there are not websites dedicated to acne scars. But there are lots of websites, which have sections dedicated to acne scars. But, of course, in this case deep linking should be allowed on your directory.

There are also Squidoo lenses about acne scars. So, if I would make sub-niche directory, I would allow Squidoo (and similar) pages.

And maybe that same directory could list blog posts too. I'm sure there are lots of blog posts about acne scars.

Now this directory would be something different from others. But I think it would become a great resource among those who suffer from acne scars.

Maybe I will play with ths idea, and see where it takes me.

I'd still think it's very limited and it would take ages to promote such a directory. I'm not sure about the squidoo part but others would be tough as a Sumo Wrestler But give it a try and share the progress with us.

I'd go for a Health directory also as they can grow up pretty quickly.
