Thread: How to make a directory ?

I am pretty bad when it comes to making websites. I use concrete5 to make them and have bluehost hosting. I was wondering how I could go about making a niche directory.


atm I have a gaming directory. All it is though is I added a form and I have to manually add each and every game. I was wondering how all these directories do things such as.

make the topics so when you sign up you pick a category and sub category.


in generally if you can give me some tips to making a directory that would be great, and for people who own directories and don't want to give me hints/tips because they don't feel like yet another competitor....all I can say is I have a gaming directory so no worries lol.

Script :: there are lot of sites provide free directory script but i am always go with phpld, there are free and paid both var. available. if you dont like to invest 30$ then register you acc there and you will get phpld var 2.2 free so download it.

Installation :: installation is also easy and script have read me file. just upload all files into your hosting by usin any ftp client or you can use browser upload too aswell becaz this is a small script.
then run your site and script automatically farward you to installation page. follow all steps and your directory is ready.

than understand all function and start making your category. and your complete directory is live.

if you have more question then ask here may be i will help you. i am not too good but can help you in this field. also not good in writing thats why i am not have any content site so sorry if you unable to understand my post

ohh, so if I create an account I can use it free but if not it's $30 ? that part is confusing me as Im not really interested in paying $30 for this particular project. Im on the site atm checking it out though.

no, that's not correct.

as i was already write in my post that there are script availble free or paid.

paid script have lot of more functions and var. is phpld 3.4
but if you cant afford then you can try with free script var 2.2

and registration is required to download free var too. so register your acc there and start your first directory with var 2.2 without any script charges.

I would definitely go with phpLD. there are several people out there who will charge you to install it and get it up and running, I've done that and had pretty good success with it.

I am into the directory business from 2006 and I do provide directory installations and customization.

I charge 15$/hour, incase interested you can PM me.

The old free version of phpLD gets spammed a lot, so I would not recommend that you run it.

yeah you are right sir,

I am also not recommend free var. but it can work in this condition.........

if you first time and not have money to spend then that is a good choice, if you have only one directory then you can fight with spammers and can use ban word and ban ip mod to avoid spaming.

One another problem is with free script that lot of people start making directories, they dunno well about directories but making lot of spammy directories.

im having a problem with regard to directory submission, what do they mean by auto approve and pending? what is PR and what is the basis of improving your project site?

could you atleast guys give me some site for free directory submission site that is auto approve and pending? tnx.. hoping for your replies.
