Not quite, Google should of never publicized pagerank. It makes their search engine too predictable, before you could make page, throw a pr5 link at it, and suddenly and day or two it would be in the top 10 for that keyword. I wouldn't call that useless. I think now things have changed a bit. Now it seem really unpredictable. They probably are testing a new algo that they are not publicizing. btw if I could take a guess, it would be links on their serp pages. Have you noticed kovich that links sometimes are redirection? Yes, I think their counting hits to the sites now. So if you in the #1 spot, but the one in #8 is getting more hits, then that one will push up threw the list. (my theory anyways).
