Thread: Directory Submissions -- Results?

Do those Directory submissions still work ? I used to submit my sites to 1000's of directories but there wan't much effect it had done to traffic. I think social bookmarking is more effective than directories.

It work. You will not get so much traffic. But as valuable links it still works.

I got the around 75% for my first submissions after 1 month. Probably its around 60%-80%. I did not tested but 7 from 10 are submitted.

Actualy all your links are submitted, but those 30% are probably not accepted.

When you start submitting you will be overwhelmed by email of succesfull submissions.

Directory Submission is still effective..

Many can get 80% Approval rate. If we will meet their guidelines they will not reject..

directory submission still work good for serp.

but it take up to 3 month to give effect and i think u r just subit in directories 5-10 days before and make this thread.

its is also depend on your target keyword compitions. if your keyword have high compitions in google search then u have need to submit in more directories and have need to do good SEO.

Just a tip, but when you submit to directories, make sure you use different anchor text every 10-20 submissions. Otherwise, if your anchor text is the same on a hundred of directories when you get accepted and indexed, google will not show the links when you type "link:somesite.com"...
IMHO, the link text can have just a slight difference, such as punctuation if you are targeting a specific keyword.

I was just wondering if submitting your site to free directories is worth it from an SEO perspective?

I did it before on a couple of flips purely to get some backlinks, but does it really help in the long term?

If yes, how many directories should I consider submitting to?

Worth or no is depend on which directories you submit? Because not all (mostly) directories using no-follow link. That's mean, in SEO point of view, it's no worth at all. You can make your submission worth if you do it on directories which using do-follow link.

About how many you should submit? As much as you can in do-follow directory.

So lets say I get a package that submits my site to 1000 PR2-8 dofollow directories... what sort of effect will that have on my site's ranking/PR/anything else SE related?

(sorry for my newbieness... SEO isn't my strong point)
