Thread: Are Acronym domain names good?

I want to know are acronyms serve as good domain names? Cos i just purchased a .com domain of 5 letters. That I want to start as a web designing Blog.

It is www.jawdb.com - Just another Web Designer Blog!

Please give in your valuable reviews on it!

Acronyms are valuable when they actually mean something "meaningful". <<- This doesn't sound well.

In that (JAWDB) I'd try to find something else.

I don't think it will attract attention when people see the URL and nothing else. However, your search engine listings show the title and part of the body (or description) regardless of the domain. The same thing is true with ads you might have on other sites. Banners and buttons can be descriptive regardless of the domain, too. With an acronym domain, it is probably a good idea to spell out the actual phrase in the header of the site.

Do you mind me asking what you paid for it before I can give my opinion about that? You can PM it to me if you prefer.

I think the name itself is OK. I just noticed one small thing that most people probably won't. It ends in the letters 'd' and 'b'. db = database. It looks like your domain is 'Jaw Database' or something to that effect.

well it was a new domain.. unused.. i got it for 2$ from yahoo small business hosting.. :P

I had the same thought but then i didn't wanted to lose this domain.. So, I bought it and will think what to do with it.. I thought it as Just Another Web Designer Blog for its acronym.

If it was only $2 that's a steal Your blog might attract people who appreciate that you're not egotistical about it. At least you didn't over-hype it and register tbwdbe.com (The Best Web Design Blog Ever)

I got another one for 2$ cssezine.com .. wondering if i should start it as a css design blog, css gallery or a css niche article directory. Any suggestions?

its not attractive enough if one could only just see the url. instead use anchor text when showing it off
if i haven't read the Just Another ..., I might just thought its a database of jaws.
