    Best Domain Extension for SEO

    Hi guys,

we have many extensions for domain names like .com, .org, .net, .nl, .gs and etc.
But which one will give good support to do seo? According to me its nothing else but .com domain names. Though i am unable to tell the reason I believe so..What do you think?

    It goes like this:

    .com
    .net
    .org
    others

If however you have a website that is for example targeted towards UK users, then a ".co.uk" domain will be the most favourable in terms of SEO.

  3. domain extension doesn't matter for SEO benefit, however people are used to .com over the others.

IF you want your results targeted down to a specific region within the Google searches (ie: google.co.uk) use a matching domain extension .co.uk

There is an exception to that rule.

Google gives a significant bonus to exact match domains with com/net/org extensions and no hyphens.

If the search term is "silly putty", then Google will give a bonus to:

    • sillyputty.com
    • sillyputty.net
    • sillyputty.org

    But not to:

    • silly-putty.com
    • sillyputty.us
    • sillyputty.info
    • sillyputty.cc

MSN has a similar exact match bonus, and my guess it that Yahoo does also.

Yahoo does it too, at least from my own experience, but they give that bonus to .info also.

And what about other country specific TLDs like .co.uk, .in, .com.ph?

In all my searches, it is always the .com domain names that come up first.

I do not know, but my guess is that there is no exact match bonus for those.

I've had many sites hit page one for their SERPS based only upon the use of an exact match domain name.

A little bonus is definitely there when aiming for country specific results.
