I lost a .cz domain because of something of that nature. The registrar sold my domain without a single email to me reminding me of the domain expiration or asking for payment.

My .fr domain registrar doesn't allow you to pay in advance for more than one year.

This was one of the reasons I moved every domain I could to one registrar -- NameCheap.

i use DomainsBot - Available domain suggestions, name spinner, expired and expiring domain name search
you can see there when any of your domain will expire...
you can add it max 500

I like dynadot to use

they aren't so cheap as Godaddy but i don't have any problems with them !

These days, if you fund your account with $500, dynadot is far cheaper than Godaddy.

Yep, Dynadot is the best one on the market...
My PP got closed and Paypal refunded the money..
They weren't mad or didn't give me any disputes. I wrote them an email and they said:
''Take your time, just pay the domain again if you have the funds in your account''

I'm sure Godaddy would be a lot worse
