Thread: Best Domain Registrar

I have almost all my domains registered with godaddy... And a few one with not so known registars. Few days ago i registered one with Moniker and i like very much their system. Also i heard that many people experience different problems with godaddy, and i am very worried beacause of what i see...

Where do you host your domains and are you sattisfied?

Any words from experienced domainers?

Last year, I spent about 80 hours moving all but two of my domains to NameCheap.

I am very happy with NameCheap, and most noticeably with their customer service.

I hold over 700 domains atm (over 500 are with Godaddy), and I have (well I had) domains in more than 15 different registrars, and never had any problems anywhere, though, I prefer these 4:

(No particular order)

Dynadot
Fabulous
Moniker
Godaddy

I always try to transfer the names between registrars so I can get the cheapest price, currently I have 90% of the .nets at Fabulous and 90% of the .coms at Godaddy (some system glitch allowed me to transfer 100 names for $25 a few weeks ago)

As long as you have a decent security system yourself (different strong passwords, etc) you should be safe.

I don't like Moniker at all. They shut down my account for no apparent reason, and I lost about 3-4 domain names that I was building on at the time. NameCheap ftw!

Maybe they've discovered you weren't even a teen!

My primary registrars are Namecheap and Name.com; though I do have a few domains registered with DomainSite and Moniker; and one with GoDaddy (and I'll never register another with them).

Even though I have butted heads with Namecheap, and was ready to pull all of my domains from them (as I could afford it), that was a communication glitch on both of our parts. The main thing I have learned with them is that customer service is fast, but don't depend on your email for a reply, but use the ticket system. Even if you emailed them, it will still go into the ticket system, and not be replied to your email address.

Name.com used to be the lowest cost regular registration. They do still offer one of the easiest to use control panels.

Moniker takes the cake for the most difficult to use control panel; perhaps with competition from GoDaddy. Transfers out of Moniker will take their sweet time.

DomainSite is basically the same as Name.com, and probably part of the same company (I don't know for certain).

Too bad Tucows does not offer registration services directly; just through resellers. I have transferred away from a Tucows reseller and had no smoother or faster transfer.

I have not found a perfect registrar; but then, that is a matter of opinion. If such were to exist, like with hosts, then I guess we'd all be using the same service.

They had a "database error." However, they never restored my account.


Btw, Will, what 2 domains didn't you transfer to NameCheap -- and why?

I can safely say the worst registrar is Globat..that is if they still exist.

One French domain and one Christmas Island domain. NameCheap doesn't handle those.

I nominate 1and1 as the worst registrar ever.
