People will often use surprising terms in their searches. Often the slang terms are very popular, while the correct terminology is almost unused.

Here's a great example:

cell phone: 1409
mobile phone: 225
cellular phone 39
cellular telephone: 2
mobile telephone: 0
mobile handset: 0

I've learned a lot about keyword research and making it work from this forum, and using Will's advice above and in other threads I've been able to increase traffic, SERP, and AdSense earnings without any promotion on one of my sites.

AdSense has doubled from $5 a month to $10 a month for that site all because of keyword research, which I gotta say is very exciting. Now I just need to scale this upwards.

If you're serious about your site and planning to make substantial amounts from it, spend some $$$ and buy a good premium domain with the main keywords on the market. Especially now when the market is on the low.

based on my experience, keyword-rich domain is a must. I have 3 websites sitting on the 1st SERP page just because of the domain. Unfortunately those are not popular

domain helps in the serps. it just does not help it dominates.

that's the main reason why domains are worth so much now a days.

Your first keyword of your website is your domain.

you can save a lot of money on seo with the keyword rich domain.

put any keyword and see the first 20 results in google and also observe the keyword highlighted in the domains.

some time, where there is low compitition, you can even see parking pages ranking in first page for a search term matching domains.

also tld makes a lot of difference depending on your target country.

like .com rank better than .info's ,
