    Twitter has t.co

    There's only a few companies having one letter dot coms.

    Q.com = Qwest Communications
    X.com = eBay
    Z.com = Nissan

    The rest of the letters A through P, R through W and the letter Y are all controlled by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority

    I wonder, how long will it take before all LLL.CO's are gone?

    Just put all possible LLL combinations through Godaddy's bulk registration. The nicest LLL.co's where already taken as well as many dictionary names.

    There are still a bunch of nice names available. From all numbers 0-999, over 600 where/are still available. I registered one LLL.co, one geo.co and one dictionary.co

    I recently took the top 500 sites on web according to SEOmoz.org and looked at which domains have .co available. I was pretty amazed that about 35 of the top 500 sites on the web have their equivalent .co available to register, like creativecommons.co is available.

    At the same time it amazes me that the other 465 have their .co registered. Does it mean confidence in the .co tld, brand protection or both?

    You're reading too much into it...just that many companies that are lazy or figure they have copyright protection in the .co domain IMO.

    IMHO, this is another useless domain registration scam. It is a ccTLD, just like .ws, .cc, .fm, .tv and other "vanity" country code domains that were misrepresented to people as meaning something else.

    Notice that the .co domain registration web site does not mention that it is the ccTLD for Columbia. It may rank well in Columbia, but it is not likely to rank well anywhere else. I don't think Google is going to treat it any differently than any other ccTLD. Google doesn't treat a .us very well even in the USA, which is why it is almost worthless.

    A circus owner named P.T. Barnum once said, "There's a sucker born every minute." The home page for the e.co web site asks, "What would you build on e.co?" and has a video about a charity auction that ran from June 7 - 10. If it actually did sell for $81,000 and was part of a charity auction, that unfortunately does not reflect it's true value, which would make the claim to be more misleading hype.

    The .co WHOIS .CO Registry | Whois indicates that the e.co domain is still registered to the .co registry office. Perhaps whoever won it did not really want it. Of course, the .co registry site does not mention which charity the auction proceeds were supposed to go to, so I am surprised that anyone would bid that amount.

    *** me thinking that something smells funny about this ***

    If you have lots of money to burn, go ahead and buy up as many of these as you can afford.
