.co registration open to anyone soon

It's not offical, but several reports indicate that Google will/is not treating the .co as a ccTLD but a regular TLD like .com/.net/.co. In my opinion, that makes it an interesting TLD.

It is interesting that Google would make a statement like that. The issue of giving it the same geo-targeting options as .biz is what I would be most concerned with. .biz has turned out to be a loser that is not treated the same as .com, .net and .org.

I think a lot of us will be watching this, but given what we have seen with other ccTLDs, I'm naturally skeptical. :(

I'm not surprised, .co is actually for Columbia, a country, which is a ccTLD.

Yes, there was .me and .tv for example but i never bought into these kind of domains. Only few of those are successful at the moment.

Time will tell what .co's are going to bring. I have one geo .co domain for a European city, I will be glad to be able to use geotargeting.

hopefully one day google will treat all cctld equal or another giant SE born ...

Nothing special in .co domains, remember what happened with .name or others?

They still want to make some money and playing with us.
