Thread: Does anyone have experience with crazy Register.com - $38 per renewal :-O

This is crazy. They say they are best and most secured registrar without hidden cost so their renewal charges per domain is $38. Crazy man.. why would they need to have hidden charges when their open charges are like hell... Any experience?


I have around 3 domains with them and 4 of them are expired a week back. But the total cost to renew these 3 is $161 something.

Godaddy keeps domains in recoverable mode for 1 month. These register.com guys are crazy.

Any advise?

I had the same issue.

I bought a transfer with Godaddy for 6.99, and I got an additional year of registration.

So, just transfer the domains to Godaddy, so much better.

Godaddy.com is just as bad, because once they go into redemption period it is $89 to get the domain name back.

If you put your domains on auto-renew, that won't happen

And exactly like said above, transfer the domains to Godaddy and you'll get an additional registration year

IMHO, Network Solutions and Register.com are a couple of the worst of the major registrars. Their prices are outrageous and the service level sucks.

Several years ago I had some domains registered at Register.com. I subscribed to their e-mail services for one domain. It literally too about a minute to make the connection and download 2 or 3 e-mails every time I checked for messages. They blamed my e-mail software, my ISP connection, and just about everything except their e-mail service--without ever testing or checking anything. I will never use them again.

Registrars like this exist because too many of their customers are not aware of the going rate for registrations or never take the time to transfer their domains.

Very true. Most of their customers don't even know how they're being exploited.

I pay $7.35 for every new purchase or renewal. Never had any problem with godaddy and they have given me an account manager who takes care of everything.

Sadly, register.com guys are taking longer to start and proceed with the transfer process too. Very bad experience..

Yeah, I wouldn't trust Register. I checked them out and couldn't even find the price for a domain if I just wanted the domain. They have all of those "packages" where you get hosting and all of that, but no idea how much a plain domain is. I'd just stick with GoDaddy. It is who I use.

The most experience I've had with them is to avoid them. They seem to be stuck in '95 when it really did cost that much to register domains.

I would personally recommend Name.com over Register/GoDaddy

I too planning to transfer domain recently, though thats on another registrar.

You should add: in your opinion.

As I think GoDaddy is a complete mess and pain in the ass to use.
