    Domain name question

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere else, but anyhoo..

Thinkin of buying a domain name with either numbers or a dash "-" in it..

    eg..

    10000fists.com
    or
    ten-thousand-fists.com

because all other .coms are pretty much taken

is there any disadvantage to this other than being non user friendly and not as easy to remember...is it bad for SEO or anything like that?

Ha! I wrote about this (badly) on my blog recently:

    On the merits of non-hyphenation

In your case, you might want to consider what people search for. Do they type in "10000", or "ten thousand", or what? If you do these two searches on Google, you'll see that the results feature domain names containing those terms very prominently in each case. Try to find out which is the more popular version, the numerals or the words.

It's helpful to have the keyword in the domain name. But keep in mind that you're probably going to give traffic to the guy who doesn't own the hyphenated version.

I would also see if you can get an expired domain name at auction, there are plenty of them that already have backlinks, PR, and traffic.

Wordtracker doesn't show volume for either "10000 fists" or "ten thousand fists".

I would probably use "ten-thousand-fists.com" over "10000fists.com", because that's the format Disturbed used.

But, tenthousandfists.net is available and I would use it before either of those two.

I dont actually plan on makin a Disturbed website, great band that they are, it was first thing that came to mind as an example .

Im thinking of doing a article site and want to get the domain right first time as if i change it and the articles then appear at another location (different domain) im not sure how search engines would perceive the situation, duplicate content perhaps?

If you use a 301 redirect, you'll have no troubles from the search engines.

My suggestion is try to use alphabets only while taking/choosing a domain name..am not sure about it..But just heard somewhere that search engine gives priority to that.. and .net domains are as good as .com is..why cant you go for one .net domain?
