    Domaining?

What do you think of domaining?

This is basically where you buy a domain, then keep it for a while and sell it on for a huge profit (if you do it right).

The key is picking the right domain that is going to have massive value in the future, and then try and get it at the cheapest price possible.

    Have you ever tried it?
What's the most you've earnt from a single domain?
What advice do you have for newbies?

I feel it is a risky business (although the investment may just be 10) unless you get some 1 word domain or some awesome domain.

You can even pick up something like EnglandJewelry.com which should do well.

But if you pick something like letssermo.com, without developing it- No Use.

And definitely .coms have more value, unless you have something like play.me.

Good point, but I suppose if you are good enough to be able to spot a quality domain at a good price, you're in for a huge return in a year or two. When I used to do it (just at a small level), I would quite often make $100+ per domain, just from buying it at around $30 and selling it in a few days for $150. I suppose it's all just down to what domains you can get

To be honest, no. I think it's a personal thing and different people think different domains are good. It's not something that can be taught, but I would recommend looking for short domains or ones with keywords in. These will probably be really valuable in a year or two when all teh good domains have been regged

I think it's harder to sell a domain than a website. A domain is mostly a concept, but a website is a more tangible product. So domaining has that challenge to overcome.

Agreed. I flipped a site where, in itself, the domain was as good as worthless, but with the site I added to it, it sold for a very decent amount. Why? Because it already had the concept and it was already up and running.

That said, I think domain flipping is a great source of income if you can do it right. Buying as cheap as possible and selling at a higher price is easy money (famous last words)!

    do you mean domain flipping?
i have some friend which success earn money in this way.

Domain flipping is god choice since investment is not too big. But mostly good domain is already taken by the other, so it's hard to run this business.

Yes, agreed, but at the same time it's all down to the skill of actually finding those good domains at good prices and snapping them up before someone else does.

Compare it to a builder. There are a few jobs out there that pay very well and only one builder can get it. The builder who does get that job will be the one that has worked hard to get it. That's basically the same as domaining... the builder is the domainer and the jobs are the domains ;p

Domaining is so much so like real estate. Not really my area of expertise, but it's all about markets, potential, timing, price, etc. Kudos to great sellers, cuz they could probably transfer to real world properties.
