Thread: Are domains with ' - ' ok?

  1. That only counts for filenames. For domains, having no spaces between two words is now the best.

    Change is the only constant.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

Oh, yes yes. I now remember, exactly. Matt Cutts mentioned this in his 'Wordcamp something' video/slideshow, targeted towards bloggers and others alike. Sorry for the previous post, confusion

The non-dash version is the best for seo. But the dashed version pen-island.com is better for the eye.

Another issue with the dashed version is that it's harder to give out over the phone.

nice point, but here is where on-page optimization would come into place that would let a Search engine decide whether its 'Penis land' or 'Pen Island' depending on keyword density, proximity and many other factors.
And yeah, even anchor text from backlinks clear out this confusion for the search engines.
    Smart point though

I'm thinking that this is mostly the case as you have described. But the search engines probably also use the number of keyword search queries. So you may still end up with "Penis Island". Especially if you don't have a lot of backlinks.
