What do you guys think of expensive domains?
Are they worth the investment? How much would you be willing to spend on a domain?
I mean, look around. 'Toys.com' sold for $5.1 million recently, and even domains like 'Vibrators.com' sold for $1m.
Is it worth it? What do you guys think?

I think they are absolutely worth it.
Recently I think sex.com was sold for 10 million dollars. Such a site does not even need Google. As people will directly type one word .com domains.
Also, I am sure they must be earning a lot too.
So the investment is returned.
Talking about expensive domain name, a month ago in my country there is a people sell pemiluindonesia2009.com for a hundred million rupiahs :D
Pemilu indonesia mean --> indonesia election . It's hot topic right now i my country since in June, our country will choose new leader for indonesia.
That's mean, expensive domain is not only come from one word domain, but also with a domain which include hot topic keyword.
About my opinion about it's worth or no, hmm...But i think not all one word domain get the 1st position in google. So, worth/no if about how you manage and monetize it
Even if I had the money, I would never consider spending millions for a domain. Domains like these were much more profitable in the early 2000's, but nowadays, what matters the most is the website itself and not it's name.

sorry i'm forgot to convert it before. 1 USD is about +/- Rp.10,000.00
So, hundred million rupiah is same as $x00,000,000
Okay that means about 10 000$... 'costy' if you ask me. ;)
of course, and i'm also think it's worthless since :
1. there is no guarantee to become top position on google
2. pemiluindonesia2009 domain name will be expired on 2010 (it's just popular topic on 2009) :D
There's no guarantee, but it would also be an incredibly powerful. It's kind of like owning swineflu.com at the moment. Whilst it has no guarantee of getting to the top of the SEs, it will probably receive a lot of type in traffic and also sounds official, thus getting more links.Quote:

Buying a new one? to find one word domain which still available is so hard. I think all one word domain is already taken :(
