Google rankings are becoming less and less valuable every day...

We're all being pushed to AdWords.

Interesting article Google Blurs The Line Between Paid & Unpaid Results Again

The article gives an example of a sponsered listing inluded in the local results here

Off-track but what grabbed my attention first is a wordpress blog/site sitting proudly at #2

And re sponsored listing or the blurat paid and unpaid listings, the enhancment doesn't seem to give much benefit until it sends you at top positions. If it's coming somewhere at #5-7 with a "sponsored" label, I don't think it's help attracting more traffic.

And looks like, it is still running as a test at few local centers only.

"skateboards in Houston" isn't the best example, take a look at "hotels New York" - [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=hotels+new+york"]hotels new york - Google Search[/ame] , or "hotels London" - [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=hotels+london"]hotels london - Google Search[/ame] , "hotels Barcelona" - [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=hotels+barcelona"]hotels barcelona - Google Search[/ame] There are so many ads...

I'm not so sure if it's Google showing all those ads on purpose or if it's a case where the hotels themselves don't have much faith in organic SEO or even understand it so they would rather pay for clicks than do organic SEO. So, there's a lot of competition for those ads.

You're correct that the "google tag" doesn't do anything and it's not worth the $25 per month. I'm guessing that some time in the future you are going to have to pay to have a live link to your site. Otherwise when you click on the link, it will go to google maps.

48 links on the first page

    11 adwords ads
    10 organic
    7-Pack local results
    17 suggestion links
    3 Google books

There's only ten organic spots for the first page and 50% aren't even hotels. It may be cheaper to pay for the adwords than to hire an SEO.

now a days .Its too competitive to get traffic for local/Geo keywords for the websites which doesn't have the listing for the particular places .

Sponsered Ads on top, Google places listings with 5-10 results make it hard to get traffic

Interesting. I think it is better if they stop to directing towards their will. Actually they are guiding us.

There's just too many results on some of the local results and many time the local results are maps rather than websites. So they are guiding the user to click the sponsored results that are licks to actual websites.
