How to transfer a domain name

There is a lot of domain name owner who than know or find it difficult to transfer is domain name from current provider to another provider. This write up explain how you can transfer your domain name without any problem or delay from the current domain name administrators.

There is different types of domain name extension namely generic top-level domain (gTLD) and Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs), firstly you have to know what type of domain name extension is your own domain name and follow the process of transfer the of domain name.

A generic top-level domain (gTLD) is a top-level domain whose function in theory is used by a particular class of organization or institutions. They have extensions which can be three or more letters in length, and are named after the type of organization that they represent. For example, .com for commercial organizations; .edu - for post-secondary educational establishments; .info - for informational sites; .org - for organizations not clearly falling within the other gTLDs; .mobi - for sites catering to mobile phone and other hand held devices. If you want to transfer such a domain name to another administrator, it is always free and the transfers have to be initiate by the destination registrar. But before the destination registrar, can initiate the transfer the domain name STATUS must be UNLOCK. If the domain name is LOCK, you as the owner of the domain name have to ask the current registrar to UNLOCK the domain name, so that the destination registrar will be able to initiate the transfer process. Once the transfer processes have been initiated by the destination registrar you will receive a mail to approve the transfer or declaim it. Once you approve it, the domain name will be release to the new registrar. Moreover, some destination registrar will ask for AUTH CODE before they can initiate the transfer process on your behalf. In this case you have to contact your current registrar for the auth code and also ask them to UNLOCK the domain name.

Instances when the requested change of Registrar may not be denied include, but are not limited to:

    * Nonpayment for a pending or future registration period.
    * No response from the Registered Name Holder or Administrative Contact.
    * Domain name in Registrar Lock Status, unless the Registered Name Holder is provided with the reasonable opportunity and ability to unlock the domain name prior to the Transfer Request.
    * Domain name registration period time constraints, other than during the first 60 days of initial registration or during the first 60 days after a registrar transfer.
    * General payment defaults between Registrar and business partners / affiliates in cases where the Registered Name Holder for the domain in question has paid for the registration.

A country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) are country-specific domain names such as,,,, .us, .ng etc. If you want to transfer this type of domain name, all you need to do is to contact your domain name registrar and tell them you want to transfer your domain name. Some of domain registrars require a fee before transfer ccTLDs domains, but the fee vary from registrar to registrar. In other to transfer a ccTLDs domain name fast, you have to obtain a IPSTAG from your destination registrar and send it top you current registrar to transfer the domain name to the new registrar. If you donít have any problem with your current registrar, transfer of ccTLDs domain name can take place within an hour and as soon as you provider the current registrar with the IPSTAG and you paid for the transfer.
