I used it for new domain registrations.

I don't expect it works for renewals, but if it doesn't work then you can always back out of the transaction.

I am just asking because i need to renew 2-3 domains and their expiry date is very near.

These coupon codes are designed to gain new business for companies, so this is why I say that I don't think they will work for renewals since it doesn't make business sense to me.

Also, you will know if your domain name is worth more than the renewal fee too once the expiry time comes, so the small discount offered by a coupon shouldn't be an issue I think.

I know what you are talking about but there is no harm if we get little discount at the time of renewal

Godaddy always offer something for renewal of domain with them.
