Next best domain type

When looking for exact match domains, and it is taken for .com, what would be the next best one to get? Is it better to add something to the domain to get a .com, or just get an exact match with a different extension?

If it's me, I will get another available domain name in .com extension.

Any specific reason? Would your site still show up ranking for a specific keyword if it had something added? For example if someone searched: Los Angeles and losangeles.com showed up, would www.losangelesCA.com still show up as high ranking? Does that make sense?

the domain extension will have zero effect on search engine ranking
if the .com is taken and you want that exact domain, I would go with the .org

No specific reason, I just prefer .com domain names.

Sure it make sense, but instead of www.losangelesCA.com, try something like LAwebsite.com instead of losangeleswebsite.com, make it short, easy to spell and remember.

I would buy the .Net as it seems to only be a little bit behind .Com.

The .org seems the strongest after the .com tld. The .co.uk also seems to be strong as well.

If that keywords is very good for traffic than I can go for .net or .org but I always prefer .com extension and If I don't get it than I start searching some something else good like that .
