I am tired of this 1 year, 2 year domain expiry...And top of it, if one forgets to renew the domain name, your complete efforts of building a brand name goes down the drain.
I ask everyone...is it possible to buy a domain name for life?

No according to my knowledge you cannot get a domain for life.
You have to consider what "for life" means. Some people live to 20, some people live to 108. You can't just have domains completely taken off the market because someone chose the billion dollar "for life" option. It'd be nutso.
Hello,
There is sort of a way to get a domain for life. Several hosts include a domain for free for the life of your account.
█ Keith I. Myers█ K-Disk Networks - Reseller Hosting Specialists
█ Affordable Semi-Dedicated Reseller, Master Reseller and Alpha Reseller Hosting Done Right
█ End User Ticket Support Available | FFMPEG Active on All Plans
You can but only if you register a .ro (Romania).
RoTLD - Romanian Top Level Domain
The registration is 51,26$+VAT(19%), one-time payment. There is no yearly fee at present.
When yearly fee will be introduced, you will be informed.

Once again, my post on WMP was not migrated, so here I go...
Nope, the domain is for life as long as you are the client of that host. Once you decide to transfer host, you lose that domain. Hosting companies tie the domain name to your account. They do not give you the domain admin panel access to transfer domains and change name servers. And even if they allow transferring, then it is back to square one. You have to renew your domains from there on.
Same as above. unless you decide to be engaged with this host till your last breath, you do not have the domain for life. And after your death, the renewal process starts again.
OP's argument is: If it is possible to own a domain, rather than register to rent it for a renewal period. No you cannot OWN a domain, just rent it for as long as you want.
An average person lives for 60/70 years. Do this:
70 - Your Age = x.
Register the domain for x years and if you were still alive after that. Use this:
100 - Your Age = x.
And if you were still alive then.... Good luck.
