Want advice on Selling Domain URL

We have a URL that we have attached a basic template to, and the site is hammered with traffic, the URL is the same name as a soon to be very famous rock band

The band wanted us to take down all references to their group, that we did as it was no problem for us

Then the lawyers representing the band offered to buy the URL at cost!

We replied that as we had run the URL to the top of the search engines we wanted X,000USD which is chunk change for the band

They did not want to pay but still want the URL

So the advice I want please?

Is where can we sell for a realistic price?

    To the band/how?

    To a 3rd Party?

    Or Other?

Thanks in advance hope someone can help out

Maybe offer a lower price or ask if you could negotiate a price that all parties will be happy with.

Thanks for the post, unfortunately that did not work when we had the negotiations with them recently

  4. I'd tell them to pound sand and I'd put up something profitable on the domain.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

Yep, Will that is one of the best options for sure

Yep, I'm with Will here, you have 2 options:

1 - Create something not related to the band but maybe related to their kind of music or so and throw any monetization program in.
2 - Sell it to them for a minimum of $1500. Why $1500? Because that's the least they'll have to pay for any WIPO process, which would probably lead to you handing them the domain with no extra hassles for any of the parts.

  7. I would not mention any price for the domain name at all. I would actually remain silent, tell them that the domain name is not for sale. The best thing that you can do is to remain silent, ignore their calls, and emails from now on.

After you tell them that the domain name is not for sale, I would put up a website with content on it, but I wouldn't necessarily put anything music-related on it, they could potentially sue you later on, claiming that you're making money off of their name.

You haven't mentioned the domain name, so I'm not sure if the domain name might have more than one meaning.

    Good try

It's a .com that's all but your inventive mind is very creative

funny situation that can go both ways depending on your intentions before purchasing the domain...and if they have grounds to claim you purchased it with the intention of selling it to them later.

If you think they can prove you did, it may be only a matter of time before someone will enlighten them and they may have a good case to win the domain name. In that case I would sell it as soon as can...unless you intend to put up a site that has nothing to do with them...a "template" is not a good excuse.

    Hope this helps.
