An EMD does not work the same as it once did. I am finding it to be much harder to get a new EMD to rank well, especially if the EMD matching phrase is competitive. Most of my older EMDs continue to rank well whenever they ranked well prior to the EMD update, but new EMDs are a bit problematic. EMDs may be another billion dollars worth of value on the web that Google has destroyed.
A domain does not show up in the SERPs when a 301 redirect is used. It will only show up when an iframe is used when you have actual content within the domain. iframe content is not within the domain.
Make sure that you are using the exact match when you check monthly searches using the Google Keyword tool. The broad match numbers are useless. Broad match can mean anything that Google wants it to mean, including a percentage of searches for one word in a phrase.
Try one of the options and let us know if it works for you. The only thing consistent about Google these days is their inconsistency.
