DP won't die so easily.
Only Google can kill DP.
As long as Google keeps sending traffic to DP, it will thrive.
It isn't easy to overtake established forums - especially ones like DP that are so pampered by Google.
The best strategy for newer forums that aim to overtake established ones is to constantly focus on quality of the community.
A friendly atmosphere is a plus point, but cannot be the driving force for any forum.
note: when you replace this, dont use masked URL. thanks ~ admin
If Shawn unbans my stickycarrots account, which was supposed to unbanned about a year and a half ago, then I will care.
now dp has made a big change to its B/S/T section i am sure this is going to lead people to shift to other sites

I've recently noticed that captchas are gone when making a new thread

Well then here is at least one good thing they've implemented![]()
A friendly atmosphere can't be the driving force, but it certainly can be a driving force -- and a strong one at that.
In my niche, my only competitors are Yahoo Groups and for some reason, those groups are always filled with nasty, rude and arrogant people who do nothing but moan and incite fights within the groups. But my forum is now known as the "getaway" from all of this havoc. We have an extremely friendly community with very welcoming and pleasant members, like an e-family. Members bail from these Yahoo Groups and come to our forum and end up being life-long members of my community because it's so pleasant.
I do get 90% of traffic from Google (I'm #2 for my top keyword/phrase) but if I didn't have the friendly atmosphere going on, my forum wouldn't stand out.
