yeah I've been on DP for over 4 years and have close to 10K posts, so it's rather demeaning to see newbies who get to have more benefits and a bigg ass username.

But I think in a long term perspective it's a good thing. Forum doesn't make much (compared to the traffic that is) money on adsense, so with this addition Shawn should make some decent $$ and will now have to maintain the forum better!

Anyways I'm curious if we see the "premium" members paying the $125 annual fee and then getting banned after a few posts Then registering and paying again and getting banned for multiple accounts lol

Are you a member of any paid forums? Trolls and haters usually do not buy paid memberships.

Most of the time its people that actually care about the community and want to help keep it online that buy the premium memberships.

Is it just me, or does it seem like revenue has dropped to NOTHING on DP. Why else move to this subscription model? I can see the advantages to the end user, but wonder if this is not just another ploy to "milk the cow".

One thing that Shawn is going to have to do if he is going to move in this direction is actually provide support and a VALUE for the service. This is going to include actual paid moderation, and some method by which those that pay can actually get ahold of someone when they need it.

Compared to the other subscription based forums I am on, this one lacks the most and offers the least, all the while charging the most.

    Interesting.

I wonder if people will file PayPal chargebacks when they get banned?

Well, if I were to buy a paid membership, i would look at the benefits that it has to offer me and then decide whether the deal is good or not.
As far as community service is concerned, a forum member gets back what he gives. Buying a paid membership in no ways is going to affect the forum community as the money moves to the forum owner and not the members.
A simple donation is enough is pay your gratitude towards the forum owner, to serve the community, helping them out by involving yourself in discussions is the best way to go ahead.
