Forum Marketing (sigs)

OK, we're on all at least one forum (and the BEST one in many aspects

) but I'm sure we'll all a part of several forums (SP, DP, WF, etc). Since forum marketing can be very profitable, I'm just wondering how much traffic or sales anyone gets from their sig?

I can't really say that I get much. None here - gotta create a sig first! But overall I think if you post a lot you can generate some good traffic. And on places like DP (DigitalPoint forums) people sell sigs all the time.

Firstly, I am glad you like WMP

I am on very few forums. Just mentioning about them:

DP- 2.1k posts. When I used to be a regular poster I would easily get 200-300 visits per site per month. Now that I have stopped posting the number is a little more that 1/10th.

SP- Just 30 posts...useless.

STZ- Swas and I were the previous owners....i had 1.5 k posts I think, never really got much traffic surprisingly.

However, as a source for backlinks forums are great!

Same thing happened with me. When I was doing 10-15 posts per day I would get around 30 UVs/day, sometimes more if I started some threads. Now I only do a few posts every week as I'm busy with other stuff, and I have just 9 UVs from the whole of this MONTH

Um, anyone notice Allen Says (the owner of Warrior forum) as one of the best, if not THE best forum marketers out there?

He's using other people to grow content, awesome content that is and then making money out of it. Pretty smart.

Forum marketing has been a good success for me on niche forums. I do outsource the job, but when you've 50 helpful posts on a weight loss forum, trust me people will look at your posts and buy stuff from you. So that way it makes money.

I believe signature links are a great way to CONTACT people (ie with Twitter and e-mail) but rather a poor way to get quality traffic (potential buyers, etc...) to a website.

Why poor way for potential buyers?

I've seen good amount of sales of my niche products by posting helpful posts (say weight loss product on weight loss forums) in a niche forum. Similarly, I've seen lots of sales from signature in an IM forum.

If you're on the right place, and contributing, I see no reason why we can't get potential buyers.

Yup, but if you are an Average Joe only enjoying the forums for what they are, I doubt you'll get many many people interested in your sig, thus your products... except if you make your signature THIS BIG.

If you're not on for marketing there, you can't really expect people to buy.

Enjoying is one thing; contribution, helpful contribution is another.

I've never had my sigs that big of a whole rainbow but I've got a decent amount of sales. When you help people, they listen to you.

And if one is just enjoying the forums, even sig links THAT BIG won't make one a DIME.

signature link give me not too many effect. Maybe it's because i'm not post to frequently or my signature is not eyes-catchy. But it's not problem since i'm rarely using signature on forum

I have made sales from my sigs in the past. I usually set up a specific page or a code or Aweber link to see where I'm getting my traffic. Honestly, it hasn't done much for my business in general, but it has been successful. I think with other easier ways to drive a lot more traffic to your pages, the sig thing is just not worth the time as a primary objective. That being said, I think if you're on forums AT ALL, you should have a sig leading to some sort of offer or site of yours. I know I don't have one here yet, but I will soon.
