I think I probably get more visits from reviews than my actual signature, but there's no real way to track this, as the referrals show up as "direct bookmark" or "webmasterpeers.com."
Sigs in forums... Well on DP, I have over 1,400 comments, and get about 4 hits a day from them. Many of those hits are coming from WTS posts or stuff like that though, so i would say sig links drive very little. In regards to SEO, DP just dropped to a PR4 the other day so if a big forum like that can't rank well, good luck having your signature adding any PR to yours.
Sig links are very helpful to get quick backlinks and getting your site noticed quickly.
We have tested this extensively. Forum signatures only appear to help if they are from a forum in a related industry. It is not a quality link if the link is from an unrelated site.
For example, out of the four links currently in my signature, the only link that had any effect on rankings is the link to the tech site. It went from being buried in a 100+ position in Google to a #2 position in Google in less than a week. There has been no ranking effect on any of the others. We have done many other tests like this using forums focused on different industries with pretty much the same results.
Links have not carried equal weight with Google for many years. The quality of a link is a major factor with link building.
Forum link can drive some traffic, and they do help a spider to find a new site, so they do have some value.
Also, be aware that a lot of forums have gone to using nofollow attributes on signature links. Those links have zero SEO value.
I think it is one of the thing you can do for SEO. Is it the best? Of course not, the best thing is link diversity. Forum signatures is one of the things you can use in your SEOmix
It doesn't matter. Whether it is a do-follow link or not, a link in a forum will drive traffic to your site. Well, of course a do-follow link is preferred for SEO purposes, (= even more traffic) but even a no-follow link has a value that you cannot ignore.Quote:

Forum posting with signature can help to create quality backlinks.
It is my favorite seo method.
