There are lots of people who think they know something about SEO, but apparently haven't read any of the hundreds of thousands of articles written in the last 5 years.

I have a new client who didn't know why his site dropped out of Google search results several months ago and his PageRank went from 3 to n/a. It might have something to do with mentioning 'insurance' 120 times on the homepage. No joke. He did do that because 'it worked in the past'.

The story about signature spam link and anchor text link signature are just google pretexts to hammer more webmasters. The next step from google and I have already see googlers saying it, that signature links should be relevant to the forum theme, which is pure BS.

I have seen great forum members trying to bring interesting subjects and threads or posts spammed by junior members with a few words irrelevant to the threads or posts. In general these junior members are looking for short and quick ways to get enough post counts to put a signature link, and there are tons of guys like that in every single forum.

So my point is that google can use this crack to penalize forums at will with whatever reason. The most exposed with what google is expected to do will take an heavy toll for old forums containing millions of threads and posts.

If I was a forum owner, I will put a minimum of 150 posts or more to get a signature link, that's the only way to fight this kind of spammers.

Whether a spammer will get a signature link or not.
Whether that spammer has to has 10 pots or 500 posts to get a signature link.

Will not stop a spammer from spamming a forum with useless posts.

Well you know like me that IF a person is looking for link signature, it will not take long to spot it.

Now sure spammers not looking for a signature link will spam right away, or at least not long after they just sign up.

It also depends of the mods efficiency to wipe out quickly these guys, unfortunately it is not always the case (I am not talking about this forum).

Frankly it is easy to spot, because in general they have nothing interesting to say besides a few words on each post.

You may not be aware of how many spammers we find and how many posts we delete. We typically see spammers run their post count right up to 25 in a few hours to get over the signature hump. We then usually send them a warning and delete about 20 of their posts. That tends to discourage most of them. If it doesn't they get a boot so far up their hind end that they can taste the leather.

Rob filters out most of the known spammers as they register, but identifying some of them in advance is like trying to catch a snake in a rock pile.

The worse spammers are those who copy and paste short but dumb questions.
    Like "What is a domain"
    Or "What is SEO"

I know that this forum eliminates a lot of spammers.
Namepros is another forum that does a decent job of eliminating spammers.
    But DP?
Damn, but they love spammers of all kinds there!

I was one of the first 100 members at DP and I gave up on it 4 or 5 years ago. Any forum that is not moderated properly will quickly turn into a cesspool. At one time DP was a very good forum, but the bottom feeders took over and ruined it.

That's another important issue, the senior members discouraged and frustrated that a forum let a free pass to spammers of all kinds. Not only this kind of forum don't bring new great members but they also make the senior members leave.

What's why it is important to take action as quickly as possible.

    Dp....about 2006 to 2007 started going downhill.
The good mods and admins they had, they got replaced with a**wipes who like to do nothing than give infractions and protecting their scam and spam friends (and their own scam and spam).
Bottom feeders is what you get there.
But still, I am not that active, but it is good for a bit of traffic.

Maybe postal application for signature activation would be the answer? But the sigs. would still be subject to moderation.
