    Importance of forum signature?

    Hello everyone,

I used forum to contribute my knowledge and learn new information from it. Most of forums provide Signature links below your post and in your profile page.

Are those signature links are helpful for SEO purpose?

If that signature link is no-follow then still it valuable or not?

To synopsize, the general consensus is that profile links have been largely devalued in SEs and no-follow links have pretty much none, so the value is largely limited to direct traffic, which will only be worthwhile if your posts are.

So if someone's joining a forum just for the sig link they're generally better off doing something else, cause posting for link value alone wastes their time as well as the time of people that have to wade thru the link-value spam.

I wish that message were better kown, cause forums are full of dorks that think posting quick fluff is a feat of seo skill, when in reality it pegs them as idiots.

I find this post sort of contradicting. Contribute knowledge on what? SEO? If so, then why the questions?

Penguin update suggested that google will consider signature as a spam if will find it in forum. It is not worth so try to avoid signature in forum.

And how did you come up with this?
    Because it is wrong!

    Geesh....

It looks like they are planning to go after forum links, but the ones they are after are the spammy keyword-stuffed links, which they call "optimized links." This has not yet happened, but it likely to happen in the future. Google recently added forum links to the Link Schemes page.

    Link Schemes

Forum comments with optimized links in the post or signature, for example:
    Thanks, that’s great info!
    - Paul
paul’s pizza san diego pizza best pizza san diego

I have seen and still see sig files that are a collection of keywords like the line above.

Yep. We have been deleting those links whenever we see them in posts for quite a while, but most link spammers are so ignorant that they just keep doing it.

It looks like signature links, which we have allowed, are also going to be a target if they are spammy. Anyone with keyword stuffed signature links should start cleaning them up before the next Penguin update hits.

    Way I look at it?
If some idiots want to use keyword stuffed signature links, post links, etc?
Hope penguin, the hamster and the zebra kill off their sites.

Then there are those who do keyword stuffing on their sites and blogs.
    Just pure idiots!
