Question Sig Links Value for Back Links

    Hi,

I have heard that some people have gotten on page 1 for a certain keyword using just sig links.

This question has a few parts please help as best you can.

How do you determine the number of links needed for a single keyword to reach page one?

Next once you have that number what is the best way to split it up? (Example is 1000 sig links from the same forum just as good as 100 sig links at 10 different forums or would 100 sig links from 10 different forums be better?)

Do the number of sig links a person has make a difference? (We can use 4 here but if I just used 1 would that one get more weight then using 4?)

Do sig links that are old still count for anything? (Meaning if you no longer post a certain forum and your post are over 2 years old do they have any value?)

Anything that you can give me about sig link would be helpful.

    Thanks in Advance

Sami, sig links are valued on the basis "where they are placed". If fortunately, the tread is a success and your link is on a good thread, it has good chances to add to your link profile. Getting hundreds of sig links from fake or "no value" posts may not help.

The number of sig links for page one would depend upon how competitive your keyword is. As far as I see, low competition keyword may get page 1 with only sig links but I seriously doubt on getting page 1 for average to super competitive keywords. You'd need some good link building methods for them.

Getting 5 good sig links every month (from different forums) should help any keyword decently though.

    Hope this helps.

They have some value people sell them all the time and spammers, and post padders want as many as they can get.

The word I am looking at is very competitive. Is there anyway to find a number out so I can try to set a goal for how many I would need?

    Thanks for the info.

They have no value alone. Like you asked for a number, 100 sig links from 100 different forums may controbute nicely to your site's link profile and may not give you no. 1 or even page 1 all on sig links ground. You'd need some other good link building methods to complement.

For me personally, I'd spread them around. The more forums that have a link to your site, the better. When I'm buying signature links, I usually just search for people making an x amount of posts per day, whether they have 250 posts or 15000.

A few hours ago I bought 2 signature links (full signature) and an avatar from a member at DigitalPoint for $5/month. He says he's going to make 7-10 posts per day which is fair IMO. Since the promoted site (WiredStorm) is still in its introduction phase, I just want the logo and signature to be seen by as many people as possible. That's why I opted for a more-active person instead of a person that has 15K posts, but only makes 1-2 posts per day.

I think really the days of signature links are past.

I have seen keyword phrases for a link on signature file drop in the serp.

Only because I believe google is so working on their search results and backlink results, that they are discounting more and more all forums.

But still, the more backlinks you can get on forums, the better.

And I believe that links in threads and posts also counts for more by google.

Unfortunately if they are discounting more and more forums, since IMO forums are one of the very few ways where people actually honestly share websites they like and should be interesting. We use them for backlinking, but webmasters aren't the highest percentage of online users so..

But ofcourse it's big G and nobody knows what they're doing

See, you have seen the light!
But of course it's big G and nobody knows what they're doing

And people still use forums, still go to forums.
So I don't really see google discounting forums in the serp.
Just slowly discounting the links in signature files.
For as we know, google does not like the buying and selling of links.
And they know sig files are bought and sold constantly.

But links in a forum post or thread, that is a different matter.

Which brings to another thing I believe google is going to slowly discount.
    Profile links.

Google is not dumb. They see what the latest buying and selling is all about and they take steps to discount what is bought and sold.

I had experienced good results with signature links. As ChillingBreeze have said, you have to combine signature links with other link building methods. For low competition keyword may work to get into top#3 but for medium competition you will have to work harder.
