A unique selling point is essential. But the great thing about having so many people providing writing services is that everyone needs content.

I have to disagree. People will hire writers because they're lazy. Article packs require refining (I know because I've bought article packs with poorly written articles ) but a writer will give you something completely unique (if he/she's a good one) and it will have style and flair...which is worth the price for most people.

This is a great idea but i would forgo the blogspot blog and buy a domain name. Use the unsold articles in your online portfolio and you can generate business just from your own website.

Just be REALLY good at what you do and clients will go looking for you..

Don't lower your prices - improve the writing quality instead

This is a definite must. As my teacher said just today in class: promise big. deliver big.

Quality is what will get you paid.

The three components of competition are:
    • Cost
    • Quality
    • Service

It's easy to compete on cost, but why would you want to?

Quality is very important in this business, but you have to prove that quality to customers before they buy. This is why having a portfolio of your work is so important.

I am approached by a lot of writing vendors whose samples are full of grammatical errors. Don't be one of those guys.

In this context, quality is related to credibility. Building credibility can be done by having a company web site, supporting online ordering and billing, and maintaining a good reputation in the community. I am surprised that so few professional writers make the time to post quality articles to the popular forums. A writer is known by their writing. Good articles sell articles.

Service is also very important and difficult to prove to new customers. Testimonials from existing customers are good, but they are faked so often that they lack credibility.

I think that service, in this context, also means designing the right packages or lack of packages for your customers. Some customers prefer pre-built packages of services, others prefer an à la carte selection.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

    Cost and quality = value.

One way that it's possible to compete on cost is to offer a bare bones package. Many times the customer will decide to upgrade once they learn the value of the work.

Credibility is extremely important. As Will as pointed out publishing articles on forums is an excellent way to build the brand.

The packages are a good way to generate business and to add value to the work.

Articles and seo are good combinations.

As a online business owner, I am always looking for copywriters.

Guys I am French and English is my second language, so it will be very ugly if I need to write my own articles, sometime my wife write for our site.

My wife work and don't have the time to write all of our articles, but if I can contribute to this topic, I will say that we try to find original writers, that understand our business and our needs. The quality is important depending on what you can afford or what's the purpose of the articles.

If the articles are on specific topics and need some research, I am able to pay a little bit more, if the articles are specific for "on site product/customers" the cost should be low, because you never know how long the manufacturers will produce the products and frankly there is less work to do than articles involving research.

I have seen writers providing repetitive descriptions on products with different scents, which is not only bad for our site but also for our customers.

I agree articles and SEO are good strategies to get more work. I will add simply to create the online portfolio as much you can and getting more work is directly related to your past history and your relationship with the clients. most probably if you have worked in a precise way and completed the work of the previous contractors on time and they are satisfied, then good chances are that they will contact you for the further work. So, be incontact with them and always say hi and smile

The point is to create the good positive image and join as many as freelancing online work platforms as you can.
