Thread: Would you consider being a freelancer all your life?

  1. #1
If you have built a good reputation and are good at your work- why not!

  2. For me too a 'no' as I don't want to make a career from the online world..at least till now that is what I have decided.

  3. I would. I love to write code and do not think I would get bored of it... so yes I could spend my life freelancing

  4. I would have o say yes too. I would love to make a career online. The only problem why I am not fully involved with the online work is that it is not very dependable. There are always times when you are unable to find work.

The best reason I would want to be a freelancer all my life is because it doesn't cost gas or to maintain a vehicle to get to work and back. Right now, I am spending a good amount of my paycheck just on gas and maintainence on the vehicle. But, no I would not just stay in my house the whole day.

If you find the right kinds of clients then you can get constant, reliable work. My mother is a freelancer (not online) and manages to keep her house and social life active.

You should never aspire to be a freelancer all your life. I actually wanted to be a full time writer when I started... but after I learned more about IM I realised this was a thought that would only limit me.

If you are freelancing, you are always dependent on someone else (just like if you were in a regular job, although that is more secure).

If you are freelancing, you already have the skills to make it on your own... and if you don't have the knowledge, why not learn or JV with someone that does?

No, I plan on running a online web business which could be classed as similar. Hardly the same though.

If I could code well enough and the work was constant it would probably be yes

Why not? There are plenty of people who freelance as a life's work. Consider contractors for buildings, they're freelancers. So are landscaping companies. And who do you think writes the copy for big businesses? Freelancing isn't anything to be ashamed of. I don't think you can say that you should "never" strive for it. Some people would prefer that kind of short term commitment.

Being a freelancer means just the opposite of what you've said - you aren't dependent on someone else (such as a boss). If you establish relationships with clients and constantly build a client base, you can effectively work with the kinds of people you like to work with, on hours that fit into your schedule. That's what my mom does, and I think it's a cool thing.

    Never say never!

    Google isn't a freelancing company. O.o

no...i would like to have a stable job. I'm only freelancing when I need some extra cash but I don't depend on it for my daily needs since it's not stable
