What is your number one tip for freelancing? Mine would be "you don't have to accept every job!" So many people accept and get overwhelmed, or pick gigs that don't really help them advance.

Don't under/over value your work.
In the other thread Corey pointed out how someone was charging too less. Never do this. And don't charge too much too, or else you will get very few/no clients.
To get the right rate look around at what others are offering, compare the quality and then set your price.
Another tip would be to get a collective instant messaging client (Adium, Pigdin, Trillian) so that you aren't running three different chat programs in the background while working. ;)
Never compromise quality for quantity. Always ensure that you are delivering top-notch content.
Another one would be to plan ahead! You never know what could happen so it's best to be prepared.
Also Never take a job or task you can't handle
Never put your head too deep in the sand, in other words dont find a job that requires way more experience than you have, leave it to the people that can do it.
Stay active on forums.
This is very important if you want to build your self up.
Stick to 1-2 forums and do some regular gigs there, you will get famous soon.
Another tip: raise your prices. Many new freelancers underprice themselves. My mother always said to base yourself at $20 higher than you actually want to earn. ;)
