Thread: Death penalty

  1. #1
Death penalty is actually a fast-finish. The person that actually deserves the death penalty should suffer instead of this thing (at least the way it is in Belgium sucks).

So, yes, they should abandon that and replace it with something better

The death penalty isn't to "punish" the criminals. The death penalty protects innocent people from becoming victims should the criminal get released or escape.

Doh, saw the original posted is banned...

I think the legal system does need to take appropriate steps to ensure those put on death row pre-DNA evidence meet today's standards in the courts for being guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt."

I'm against the death penalty in countries without modern justice systems.

Mexico abolished the death penalty in 1961. Every day in Mexico innocent people are executed by the drug gangs.

A good quote to exemplify why we still support the death penalty in the States:

If we execute murderers and there is in fact no deterrent effect, we have killed a bunch of murderers. If we fail to execute murderers, and doing so would in fact have deterred other murders, we have allowed the killing of a bunch of innocent victims. I would much rather risk the former. This, to me, is not a tough call."

In the U.S. we have a constitutional right to bear arms unlike most European countries...
In the U.S. we have significantly more violent crime...
In the U.S. it can be argued without the threat of the death penalty we would have more violent crime than we have today...

"Indeed, the decision that capital punishment may be the appropriate sanction in extreme cases is an expression of the community's belief that certain crimes are themselves so grievous an affront to humanity that the only adequate response may be the penalty of death."

I can see both side on this issue. What I don't like is the appeals process. STOP spending money, and wasting the courts time on appeals.

In states that allow the death penalty they should add something to the books that says NO appeals can be granted after x number of years. The real cost on this is not the housing but the court time.

If they get rid of the death penalty and they keep people then so be it, keep them locked up for life.

And another thing. Get rid of probation and letting people out early on good behavior if they are sentenced to serve time make them serve it. If I have to pay a few cents more in taxes to keep them in jail OK build more jails. We will also be saving money by not paying all the people that work in the parole system.

3 children found shot dead in Texas apartment

Muhammed Goher, 47, was charged with three counts of capital murder in the Sunday morning slayings, said Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Jamie Wagner.

Goher was in stable condition Sunday afternoon at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, where he was being treated for what investigators say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, she said.

Goher's two daughters, ages 13 and 7, and a 12-year-old son were killed in the shootings, which were reported around 9:45 a.m. at an apartment near a food market three miles south of Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport.

How about sending all the convicts to Aleutian Islands in Alaska to do hard labor. The Rat Islands in the Aleutians are uninhabited and there's no change of escape. It would be a kind of freezing "Devil's Island"
