Thread: Gmail not accesible?

  1. btw, I have a problem with pop.
I use thunderbird to download gmail emails - recently installed it and started downloading all the emails in the account. So it stopped somewhere around July 2007 emails and doesn't download any more emails, even the new ones that are unread. Every time it's showing 'no new messages'

Any ideas why? I checked all the settings and seems fine.

What happens when you telnet to port 110 on the mail server?

It should work something like this:
    # telnet NAMEOFMAILSERVER 110
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
    Connected to NAMEOFMAILSERVER
    Escape character is '^]'.
    +OK ready <79005.1235570569@NAMEOFMAILSERVER>
    USER YOURLOGINNAME
    +OK Password required for YOURLOGINNAME.
    pass YOURPASSWORD
+OK YOURLOGINNAME has 2 visible messages (0 hidden) in 5493 octets.
That's really the best way to test POP3 -- get right down into the guts of the protocol.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

It happend to me once also in 2007. I disabled pop3 option from gmail settings
    and then enabled it again.

Also make sure your port and settings are OK.
