Have you noticed this trend in forums?

Check it out on this forum and so many other forums.

Lately it seems that every company and individual that offers hosting of any kind go to forums and post away.
And if the forums (like this one) allow new threads for the same hosting?
    They start a new thread!

I have seen forums that are getting upwards to 15 new threads per day just on hosting!

Am thinking all those once upon a time directory owners are switching to hosting?
Can't make money with a directory, so will start selling hosting!

To be honest with you. I don't know how these small ma and pop startup web hosting companies stay in business. I mean, to start a hosting business you need a few thousand dollars and i mean a Legit business and not purchase a reseller account from a web host.

People on Reseller accounts have limited space to sell which could effect the sites performance. It's not cheap to maintain a server and make sure it always has the latest and greatest hardware and software. Also providing 24 hours/7 days a week support which should be excellent. People who have no clue how to run a web hosting business nor have any experience about the inner workings of servers and how to tweak them for better performance should get out of the hosting business. To run a legit hosting business that will continue to grow large, you need to know your stuff.

I thought about starting one up 5 years ago but i didn't want to purchase a resellers account. I wanted to start one from scratch and purchase all the software and server...etc (Then i just created a blog that i run now which don't cost me much but the cost of a VPS server)

It's ok to create web hosting threads in the correct section following that sections rules. Now if the same person is creating multiple thrreads for same hosting plan every single day, then i'd be worried he or she has hardley no business and hurting for money to break even each month. Use adwords and spend money to make money if you want to make your hosting site a success like the top dawg's.

Since it's now very hard to do good in the web directory industry after some folks ruined it, they finding a new niche to tap into and prolly get it in trouble with Matt Cutt's. lol (He wasn't to thrilled with web directories a long time ago)

FYI, when you see a web host with a pre-made template, that should be a red flag to close the browser window.

The guys that used to have 50 empty directories had to go somewhere. Wonder if they'll screw up the hosting industry now too?

Someone started a "Godaddy hosting sucks" thread on my Linked In group and all of a sudden I am being bombarded by those pests. Protecting your group from hosting spammers is becoming a full time job.

Have seen two major forums where an interlocking band of twenty or so IDs took root like that starting threads to boost hosting companies and hosting review sites. One day person A starts a thread asking a question about a need for hosting of a certain type, and the other ids pour in to plug the target clients.

Meanwhile in another thread he's answering the same question in another thread asked by one of the others that came in to answer his thread. It was an obvious shill act and they were incredible in the amazing suckiness suckiness factor of their acting skills. If you looked closely, several of the same guys were both seeking a host and providing advice about the best hosting for several years until the shill team got busted and banned. Their own preferences rotated from thread to thread, and one day theyd promote company x, a week later they were starting a thread to ask if X was worth trying.

It made that section useless for real people with real questions until dozens of IDs got banned so that section was no longer populated entirely by shill threads. Turned out an amazing number of those "separate IDs" resolved down to the same handful of IPs. What a shock. That little act ran for a couple of years, banding together to run out competitors and monopolizing all discussions to favor a handful of products before getting busted. Not sure if the act broke up or just moved elsewhere.

Ftr - Have seen one of those ids in here, but no evidence of any of the cohorts. Might need to take a close look to make sure though. Drop me a url for where youre running into the issue and i'll get a look at it to see if your infestation looks familiar. Takes a while for the pattern to fully emerge, but once you see it you'll be amazed how far back it goes.

Firetown - just sent you a link to some info that may help you identify the players if its the same crew.

Forgot, We did have some of them in here in 2010 and banned them, which is why theres a warning note at the top of our hosting section. The name i saw in here recently that was assoc w/ that cabal will probably see this note, but he's a 2012 addition to this forum and will be on a short leash.

Another one of their cute moves is starting polls. Usually they ask which web hosting company you prefer.
Choices 2-5 would be the usual suspects, Hostgator, Bluehost etc. Choice 1 something you have never heard of.
The moment someone asks what the hosting company of choice one is all about, the show begins ...
