It's the end of an era..

Yahoo Quietly Pulls The Plug On Geocities

Although it's been a long time coming and about time, it's a sad day. If it wasn't for Geocities, I may have never found a career in web design which I love.

Ah, Geocities! Used to be a great hosting in the 90's - 00's.

But today it was nothing compared to other free webhosts.

Yeah, I feel bad that it happened.

But does anyone know why they shut it down?

Geocities, Angelfire, Lycos T_T! My first sites were on there. Even made them in Frontpage. Can you imagine?

$ is everything... and Yahoo kind of misses everything since a couple of years.

I doubt it's just about money, although that may be a big part of it.

Although their traffic has been falling, they were still getting 11.5 million unique visitors a month. If it was all about money, they would've milked GeoCities for every last penny they could get.

Along with money, there will be many other factors involved. It's outdated for one and there's many other platforms out there which have kept up with the times, plus Yahoo! wants people to start using their paid Web Hosting service.
