I think you are in the states? This is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It's just starting off here, but its a good thing what they are doing, they are giving the money to a legal non-profit organization

About time! Though I dont feel all the money should be given to wildlife funds some should be given to environmental groups to find away to break these down in the landfills.

Also these companies who are mandating the bag surcharge should not at the end of the year be allowed to use it as a write off on their taxes.

5x10=.50 is nothing though so this fee in my eyes isn't even high enough. The charge should be higher or the stores need to stop caring plastic bags all together. Then maybe folks will use the reusable bags sold at all major grocery stores.

Stores cold stop buying the plastic bags and give discounts on the reusable bags. Shame I think this move is coming way too late in the game with growth of the worlds population these things should have been in effect long ago.

People have already to planned on buying the re-usable bags. Although there is over to 3000+ bags per day in one store; thats $150 minimum in one store, there are like 30 stores, so it brings in some good money ($4500 minimum per day) for the charity fund. This 4500 is just minimum, this can go to a really high value.
