Just a question that I had...
an exact match domain name I own shows 33,100 on local search volume and 5,400 on global volume with "Use synonyms" and "Exact" selected on the search phrase. Am I correct in thinking the 5,400 number is the correct "high end" for the monthly search volume?
Normally I've seen the search volume(s) the other way around, so thought I would ask.

This confuses a lot of people because the two numbers are calculated differently. The global number is averaged over the last 12 months, while the local number shows the most recent month. This sometimes makes more sense if you configure the tool to show Search Volume Trends.Quote:

Global Monthly Search Volume
This column shows the approximate average monthly number of search queries matching each keyword result. This statistic applies to searches performed on Google and the Search Network over a recent 12-month period. Local Search Volume: [Last Available Month]
This column shows the approximate number of search queries matching each keyword result. If we don't have sufficient data for a particular keyword, you'll see not enough data.
Search Volume Trends
This column shows a keyword's fluctuation in traffic over a recent 12-month period. Each bar represents a different month, and the month with the highest volume of traffic is listed in the next column. This statistic is specific to your targeted country and language as well as your selection from the Match Type drop-down menu. If we don't have sufficient data for your targeted country and language, you'll see no data.
Makes sense now :) My apologies on not digging deeper into Google itself on the why!
